Hi KHP,
My first posting to a NZ forum, I hope you can help. I've recently discovered quite a famous relative whose family emigrated to New Zealand in 1884/5.
One of the 10 children was Horace Moore-Jones, WWl artist who served at Gallipoli. There are several similar obits for him online, and I'm wondering if the report in the NZH for his untimely death rescuing peple from the Hamilton Hotel fire on 3 April 1922 and his obituary the following day give any more details.
I'm also interested in the rest of the family and their descendants who settled in the Auckland suburb of Remuera. Google finds the name Moore-Jones survives today and I suspect there are many descendants including perhaps NZ diplomat Rob Moore-Jones ( but what do I know?)
Horace's father, David Jones, had a brother almost as noteworthy. He was the Rev. John Jones, a missionary who served for 34 years from 1854 in the Loyalty Islands before being evicted by the French.
