Another New Zealand Herald Look up Please
« on: Saturday 18 October 08 16:33 BST (UK) »
Moderator comment: topic split from original look-up

Hi KHP,

My first posting to a NZ forum, I hope you can help. I've recently discovered quite a famous relative whose  family emigrated to New Zealand in 1884/5.
One of the 10 children was Horace Moore-Jones, WWl artist who served at Gallipoli. There are several similar obits for him online, and I'm wondering if the report in the NZH for his untimely death rescuing peple from the Hamilton Hotel fire on 3 April 1922 and his obituary the following day give any more details.

I'm also interested in the rest of the family and their descendants who settled in the Auckland suburb of Remuera. Google finds the name Moore-Jones survives today and I suspect there are many descendants including perhaps NZ diplomat Rob Moore-Jones ( but what do I know?)

Horace's father, David Jones, had a brother almost as noteworthy. He was the Rev. John Jones, a missionary who served for 34 years from 1854 in the Loyalty Islands before being evicted by the French.

Hi Ziksby,

Certainly I will do this for you, will let you know what I have found out.

Since the rest of your query isn't in relation to a lookup, I have asked for this to be moved to a separate thread, that way the original poster of this thread doesn't get inundated with answers and the rest of the NZ crowd can throw their answers in as well.

Cheers

Hi Ziksby

Have you looked at this site, there are records for Horace and also info on Robert might be to do with a painting Horace did of him.

http://www.archway.archives.govt.nz/

Details are available on the site if you want to buy them

a couple more names to keep you going, there are only two deaths on this site.

Amy Frances Moore-Jones 1957
Cowper Millichamp Moore-Jones 1957

Just noticed these two are listed under the Purewa Cemetery as well.

Thanks Helena and KHP .....
Looks as if most of the family are buried in Purewa Cemetary.
And several Wills registered on the Archway site.
Wait .... more coming in as I type ... thanks KHP ... now I have marriages, and more burials. I can't believe my luck.

There will be heaps of death notices to get as well, which will give extended family,    I have added few of these to the look up of yours,  then once I have given you those, then perhaps we can get the rest.

Cheers
