Little Gertrude needs a cleaning please
« on: Monday 20 October 08 20:02 BST (UK) »
I just love this picture due to the expression on the little girl's face - or rather the lack of  ;)

Could someone please give her a good cleaning?  A colour would also be quite welcome but not necessary.

Thanks a million,
Karen

I don't know much about her but a whole slew of family members were named Gertrude.  It is a horrible name isn't it?  ;)

She was born 1890 and died in 1941 and did get married so maybe she loosened up a little later in life !

That's gorgeous Jim, thanks alot.

I certainly didn't want to offend you or anyone regarding the name but for the current generations it's just one of these old fashioned names that don't really exist anymore.  Gertrude was a very popular name and I had a Aunt Gertie who I just adored when I was small.  I was almost an adult before I realized that Gertie was short for Gertrude and thought "what an old-fashioned name" ... needless to say she was born ca. 1908 when the name was still very popular.

I wonder what people will think of the names of some of our children in 50 years ;)

Thanks again,
Karen

Don't worry Karen , I'm not offended.   :)

As you say , Gertrude isn't a great name , I think most people usually shortened their name to Gert or Gertie.

When you think of some of the Victorian names that were more 'melodic' , Gertrude seems to be a very hard name. I think it is Germanic in Origin.

The time to worry is when people name their children after hotels   ;D ;D :o

Hey Jim, how you doin'?  :D

What's wrong with a little girl called the "Pigs Whistle"?  Or the "Cricketers Arms"?  You have no imagination.  ;D ;D
