Death lookup pre 1855 - Davidson
« on: Tuesday 21 October 08 13:16 BST (UK) »
Hi

I've been trying for weeks to find some record of the death of my ggggGF Robert Davidson (I live in Australia so it's a bit of a challenge). I know he was married to Anne Brown 11/2/1792 in Anstruther Easter. The last location I can find for him is Elie, Fife in 1812 or Kilrenny. I think he travelled around this area a little as he is noted as a 'farm servant' in Kilrenny in 1810. Can anyone find any record of a death matching his description after 1812? Any help with either Robert or Anne much appreciated.

Thanks
jamied

Jamied, welcome to RC.

The fife death CD lists 34 Robert Davidsons, hoever with the info given i can narrow it down to 2:

Robert Davidson Anstruther easter
died 18/11/1844  buried 20/11/1844  no age given.
pauper  OPR 441-3

Robert Davidson  Dunfermline
bur  28/1/1815

first obviously more likely - no sign of Ann.
What other info do you have / need help with.?

Diddy
Cooks -(Clackmannanshire); Erskines - (fife); Youngs - (Dunfermline); Charltons - (Tyneside ); Skillings - (N.Norfolk); Legg - (N.Yorks, Tyneside) ; Carter - (Durham); Miller -(suffolk); Pattinson -(Lincs)

From this record you can go back another 3 generations but this will need checking.

Happy hunting,  Diddy

Thanks Diddy

That was a great help. It looks as though Herbert Davidson was the father of Robert Davidson so I was able to go further back based on this info (Herbert Davidson is listed on a birth certificate for one of Robert's son's as a witness). Interestingly I've found that there is some real discrepancies with the spelling of Hebert and Davidson e.g Harbert, Harbour, Herby and Davis, Davies and Devis - all this for the same person according to some of the records I've checked on SP. One thing I did notice is that the Familysearch site has different birth dates to records on SP - is the data on familysearch generally reliable?
Again many thanks for your help

Jamie

family search dates will usually be christening rather tthan birth dates.
also watch what type of record it is. if submitted it might be a bit dodgy. if extracted - it is taken from proven records.

glad I  helped,  Diddy
