1861 double check please COMPLETE THANK YOU
« on: Wednesday 22 October 08 20:00 BST (UK) »
Hello

Could somebody please double check the following 1861 census entry please?

RG9/3434 folio 26 page 16/17
Bunker's Hill, Brotherton.

I have a John Dawson as head of household.  In the same household there is also Elizabeth Watson, Grand daughter, 22yrs. un. Dressmaker, Bn. Brotherton.

I would like to check that Elizabeth is actually down as Granddaughter.  I can't make any family connections between Elizabeth and John Dawson or to his wife, Dorothy.

I do, however believe that Elizabeth might be the step daughter of David Hodgson (46yrs) who is on the same entry as a Lodger.

Any clarification of this entry would be very appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Bob,

Elizabeth is in a different household (different schedule number), all by herself.

No. A possible explanation would be that she was staying at her absent grandparent's house on census night  :-\

Thanks again

That is possible, Elizabeth was born illegitimate in 1838, mother Hannah.  Her grandparents on her mother's side were William & Elizabeth Watson. William died between 1838 and 1840. I have Elizabeth (born 1791) in 1841 but not in 1851 or 1861 an dam not sure when she died.  Elizabeth was living in bunker's Hill in 1841 so perhaps she was there in 1861?
