An Irish question
« on: Friday 24 October 08 16:16 BST (UK) »
I have in the 1881 Census some one born in Castlereigh Ireland. Now any idea whether that would be Castlereagh Cty Down or Castlerea , Roscommon?

Probably!!

You could try looking up the surname in Griffith Valuation in each location to see if that helps determine which one

Sorry my Irish geography is non-existent: which civil parishes would that be?  My ancestors all arrived in England before 1861  would they still be the correct parish?

If your relatives left Ireland before 1861 there may not be anyone in the correct townland with the same surname in Griffith's Valuation.
Here's a better site for Griffith's Valuation (search by name or place):
http://griffiths.askaboutireland.ie/gv4/gv_family_search_form.php

To find townlands & parishes in Ireland: www.thecore.com/seanruad
Be sure to change setting from exact match to search for part of a word.
