*COMPLETED* Belfast - Prince of Wales Hotel - early 1900s
« on: Saturday 25 October 08 22:09 BST (UK) »
Is there any way to find out the name of the owner of the Prince of Wales Hotel in Belfast in the early 1900s?
This fellow was apparently the uncle to Florence May Nainby (b.1889) who originally came from Lincolnshire, England and worked at the hotel.  She married Robert Gracey (b.1884) on Sep. 30, 1915 in Belfast, and their marriage record gives her address as the Prince of Wales Hotel.  Her sister Amanda, or Amy, also lived at the hotel.  Their mother was a Goldsmith, so the uncle may have been a Goldsmith.
I was told she worked there until 1920.
If anyone has any ideas, it would be appreciated.
Thanks.

hi,
the hotel was owned by a e.j. rice in 1880. the managing director in 1907 was m.meinhardt and in 1910 g. sanderson.
probably your best bet would be to contact the land registry office in belfast or maybe try the linenhall library.

Thanks Tony.  Do you have access to the 1901 and 1911 census for Belfast?  If you do, would you mind looking up Samuel Goldsmith?  I think he might be the uncle I'm looking for, as he "disappears" in England.

Thanks Mary.  That is her sister Amy.  I don't know about the other - it could be a cousin, but not one I know of.
