3D MasterCard Secure. and GRO
« on: Saturday 25 October 08 22:56 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Has anyone else had any problems with the above card, and what was the outcome.

I  ordered a certificate with the GRO, and when it came to the 3D secure I fell foul of the password and followed the forgotten password link.
The payment was declined, I received a cancelled payment quoting the Merchants Ref number, and left the site to ring my Bank.
Also it said to contact WorldPay if there was a problem with making  a payment

On the GRO site there is Service Announcement:
GRO are aware that there is a problem with using Mastercard 3D Secure. We advise that you should contact your Bank.

The money had debited to my account, and they suggested I ring back in about ten days to see if it had been credited. I explained that I didn't actually place an order for anything as my use of the card was declined, but banks are banks!

I can't see how when I failed the 3d Secure that the payment could be debited to my account,. Surely the idea of having extra security is to stop our accounts being used by un-authorised people.

Good job it was only for seven pounds, but that's not the point is it!.

Has anyone else had this happen to them, and was your money credited back to your account.

You've got me worried now.  I use a Visa debit card, and they've recently gone over to this supposedly secure system.  I used it just once with no problems.  Now I'm afraid that if I use it again and can't remember my password I'll get into the sort of problems you describe.   :-\

Hi suttontrust.

I think it's only Mastercard that the GRO are having problems with, and they actually suggest using one of the other cards.

I don't mind them refusing me, but to debit my account is waaaaay out of line. >:( and it's put me off using it until I sort this one problem out....but I don't really know who is to blame, World Pay or the Bank. GRO didn't receive an order from me so it's not them!

WorldPay can only be contacted by Email >:(, after I composed my query to them, the next page shot to Open up a new account ??? ??? not user friendly.

Not all Company's are signed up to using 3D Secure yet, and my automatic debits go through without any problems, so they must bypass the 3D.

As I said it's only seven pounds, but I would have be furious if I had tried to make a large purchase and this had happen because I don't really know how to sort this out!

So no certificates for Ambers until it is. :'(

Hi Ambers

What exactly do the items on your Mastercard statement say?  My understanding with credit cards is that when you make a purchase quoting a credit card the amount concerned is allocated or set aside until the supplier processes the payment. In this case you would have two allocated amounts 7GDP and 8.50 GDP. When the GRO process the certificate the 8.50 GDP will change from allocated to the GRO's name (or whatever name they use) The 7GDP should still stay as allocated until the entry disappears and your account balance is corrected but your bank should be able to advise you how and when that happens.  You will only actually have paid twice if the GRO's name appears on your statement twice.

I'm not familiar with Mastercard 3d Security but I did see a comment on another topic that all you need to change the password is the card number and date of birth, I don't know about in the UK but here in Australia your date of birth is on your driving licence so if someone pinches your wallet they have both bits of information.

Hi Andy,

I only wish the Bank and 3D Secure were as knowlegable as you as to how the system works.....thank you for putting my mind at rest :D

Not once was allocated money mentioned to me or the fact that if the GRO didn't bill them for the money, that the item would disappear from my account eventually. Surely they should be able to explain the procedure clearly to customers when this happens  >:(
I have just been told to ring back in ten days to see if it has been credited to my account.
I won't receive a Statement for about another month, so it should be clearer as to what happens when it arrives.

If nothing else this Thread will help other people, should they experience the same problem as me when ordering their certificates with a MasterCard.

I think there still must be a problem with MasterCard 3D for that Notification to appear on the GRO site

Hi Ambers

Can you access your Mastercard transactions online?   This should show whether allocated or processed.

I find it handy to monitor my credit card online to get an idea of when something I've ordered over the internet will arrive as the change from allocated to suppliers name usually indicates order has been processed and on way.

Hi Andy,

I didn't realise that you could do that, how do you set it up?

Hi Ambers

Talk to your bank. Online banking is very common these days. As well as being able to view your accounts, you can usually transfer money between your accounts, pay your credit card etc.  Have a look at your banks website, there should be some information about it.
