Marriage in Portpatrick
« on: Wednesday 29 October 08 12:19 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I have found a marriage on IGI that I think is one of my ancestors but I would like to view/buy the original record but don't know how to go about it in Scotland.

The record is an extracted one and is a marriage between William Philbe (I'm hoping this is actually Phibbs) Irwin and Ann Kelly about 10th November 1795 in Portpatrick, Wigtown, Scotland.

Does anyone know where this record is likely to be kept?

Thanks
Brie

Hi Brie

It will be on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk. It's pay to view (6 units or £1.20) to view this marriage entry.

As it is a chruch record entry, it might not give much more information than you already have though.

Thank-you Gadget,

I will do that as it might at least help with the name.

Is this of any use?  This has details of PortPatrick register.

Gadget and Cir thank-you.

I have now got the details of this marriage through Scotland's people and it was very helpful. The name could just have easily been Phibbs. I have stacks of circumstantial evidence that supports this marriage being the correct one but it has always worried me that it was in Scotland. However, the marriage record indicates that they were from Dublin which fits in brilliantly!

Thanks again
Brie
