Living person's address
« on: Friday 31 October 08 07:17 GMT (UK) »
I thought I'd got lucky when I finally found out the married name, her husband's name, then shortly after an address for a elderly lady in my family tree. According to a number of the "finding people" websites the address and phone number was consistent so I wrote the woman a letter in Sept. 08.  It arrived back unopened with a yellow sticker- Return to sender- a few weeks later.

When I goggled the NE Seattle address I saw that the house at the address had been sold a month or two earlier. I would have thought that  it would have been arranged for any mail to be sent on to the new address for a period time.

Can anyone enlighten me as to how up to date the "finding people" websites are with people's home addresses and phone numbers?

Also any advice on how to find out her current address.

Thanks.
KiwiRose.

Hi Kiwirose

Just a thought - you say an elderly person?  Perhaps there isn't a mail delivery where she's gone?

My thought was that maybe they had moved into an old folks home.

But then they may have passed on as well

It is sad when you go to all of the effort of tracing someone...& then find that you left it too late... :'( :'( :'(

I've had this experience myself.

Try a reverse address look up for a neighbour on white pages. That could give you the tel no of a neighbour who might be able to help you.

Hi Kiwirose: I've found that U.S. telephone numbers and addresses found through online search sites can be very out of date. If you haven't tried Microsoft Networks people finder, you might try that. I found current info on two relatives there. It's http://msn.whitepages.com/person

If, as Arranroots so gracefully put it, the person you're searching is now where there is no mail delivery, you might try the Seattle newspapers for an obituary

The Seattle Post Intelligencer has obits and death notices online for 365 days.
It's at http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/obits/

The Seattle Times obituaries and paid death notices can be searched at http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/obituaries/

Thank you everyone all for your help.

I wondered if I was too late in trying to contact her and had checked out the Genealogybank SS Index that claims to be up to date. There must be a time lapse there.

Unfortunately she has passed on. Your websites were most helpful Jonnyboy and I found her death in the Seattle Times archives on a 31st Dec. but the year was not included in the 25  words shown. Any more information will need to be paid for. I am always very nervous about paying online with a credit card for security reasons. May pluck up courage later today.

She would have been the last living link who may have been able to throw some light on the life and whereabouts of a "disappeared in America" great uncle.

Regards
KiwiRose.
