Elizabeth HUNTLY - Overton
« on: Friday 31 October 08 19:01 GMT (UK) »

I have Elizabeth Huntly/Huntley, born Lockeridge, Wilts, c1835. Her marriage in Overton in 1863 gives her father as Richard Huntly, deceased.

She appears in 1841, in Overton with Mary Hunt, age 20, herself, age 7 and Elizabeth Pearce (transcribed as Bane) age 20. All born in county.

In 1851, she in a servant in Shaw, Overton age 20, born Lockeridge.

In 1861, she is a servant in Badbury, Chiseldon, age 30, again born in Lockeridge.

I'm sure that Lockeridge parish comes under Overton, but could be wrong. In Overton there are children born to Richard and Elizabeth Huntly, but no Elizabeth, except for one born in 1834, to a John and Elizabeth. (From the IGI)

I'd really appreciate some help or thoughts on where to go next with this one!!

I think the Overton refered to is in all probability WEST OVERTON, because the only other one is Overton Hants.
Which leads me to think that MARLBOROUGH is the key to this.West Overton  is listed under Marlborough between 1837-1974. Lockeridge being a small village closeby.

Thank you both for your input!! Her christening is proving to be very elusive.

Hadn't seen the other one in 1841 - food for thought. That one definately fits better that the one I found. Will try and follow that family to see if there's any other clues.

Thanks again
Paula

Hi Paula, does this fit from Overton parish records...........

Baptism
10 May 1834 Elizabeth Huntley dau of John and Elizabeth, lab

Marriage
2 May 1863 Amos Barrett, 26, bach, lab, Overton, father William Barrett and Elizabeth Huntley, 28, sp, Lockeridge, father Richard Huntley, deceased, banns, George Drew and Harriet Sprules

Burials
4 Apr 1846 Richard Huntley, 57, East Overton
24 Jul 1856 Elizabeth Huntley, 72, Overton

I was unable to find a baptism in Overton for an Elizabeth Huntley dau of Richard.   There were also no baptisms for any children of Richard Huntley.   Perhaps they moved to Overton later in life.

Cheers Dave

I've just checked the 1851 census and there are 2 possible Elizabeth Huntleys

HO107/1838/324/029, East Overton Tything
Martha Nurding, h, w, 80, receiving relief (ag lab) WIL Buscot (BRK)
Betsey Huntley, lodger, w, 59, receiving relief (ag lab) BRK Thatcham
Elizabeth Huntley, lodger, u, 17, ag lab, (Betsey's daughter), WIL Overton
This is probably the Elizabeth Huntley baptised 10 May 1834

HO106/1838/346/073, Shaw
Elizabeth Huntley, servant, u, 20, house servant, WIL Lockeridge
Head of house Richard Wild, h, u, 38, farmer 480 acres 30 labs, WIL Wilcot

Hi Dave,

Many thanks for looking for me - 2 heads are better are 1!!

My Elizabeth is certainly proving to be very elusive. I think I shall have to start looking in other nearby parishes.

Thanks again
Paula

Let me know if you come up with any ideas.   I normally get to the Record Office most weeks when I'm around.
