Where is Mahone?
« on: Saturday 01 November 08 17:17 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone with some local knowledge could help?!

I've got a relative (Morgan Tierney 1855-1919) who is listed in only one welsh census as being born in "Ireland, Mahone" (the others he's born "Ireland").

Other census records be it England or Wales show various unrelated people being born in "Mahone", "Mahon", "Co Mahon" and "Co Mahone".

The closest I can find that meets this description is the area of Cork called "Mahon". Does this seem likely or is there something obvious that I'm missing?

It's starting to wind me up, as I've found two of his brothers and his father, all with no certain place of birth.

Any help greatly appreciated!
