Unlocking my Modem
« on: Thursday 06 November 08 09:37 GMT (UK) »
Hi technically whizzed up people
i have brought my daughter a lap top for christmas (she doesnt know)
it is able to connect to the internet through a wireless connection
in the house i have a wireless connection for my own PC
so i was testing her laptop out and clicked on the internet button
it said search for a 'modem' - i clicked yes and
and it found several 'modem's and mine through sky but each one was locked and asked my for a password / code  to unlock it
now how do i find the code / password so that she can type this in and get on to the internet through my modem?

i am at work now so will not be able to do anything until tonight when daughter is at youth club
but would be grateful for any ideas

i must stress i only want to unlock my one or enter the passcode that lets her use my modem and not any of the others in the same vicinty

are you going through a router?

if so..

open internet explorer

type in..

http://192.168.2.1

the default password is "admin" and click on wireless security,  you will find your passphrase in there.

Hi Toni,

I connect to the internet on my laptop through a home wireless network, too. The code I needed is on the back of the router.

Good luck!

Mine is not on the back of the router, and using the technique suggested nothing happens. I tried this a week or so ago having trawled various help sites on the net.
