Hello Phil,
Thanks for the information about getting the Star Medal if you served in 1914-15.
When I found George Henry's details on the CWGC site the first time, he was listed as Charles Henry. Eventually after being able to provide his death certificate, Medal Card and an entry in Flight, showing his service number and date of death, his details were corrected.

I should have looked at the date of your original post.  ::)

I was just about to post the Flight Roll of Honour entry.

Hello Magian,

If the number on the matchbox cover is his service number, 269335, then according to a list I have, he was a civilian, enlisting into the RAF in June /July 1918.

Hi Phil
Does this list tell you anything else?
A fellow RC provided me with the link to his record on National Archives which had him enlisting in the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders in June 1917 and resigning his commission on 13 December 1917 (possibly due to injury obtained in July on 14 July). The NA record doesn't have his date of birth so I'm not 100% that it's him.
Regards
Magian

Magian,

If that is his service number on the box, then I would say that they are two different men.

The list is purely service numbers and when they were allocated, so will not get us any further.

Thanks anyway Phil. The workings of the military are a maze to me so any help at all is appreciated.
I have some old photographs, taken of David in uniform with my grandmother, that I must look out. If they have dates, that might help narrow things down.
Regards
Magian

Just a thought.... the NA records have a PPN or DDN number for David Logan - 12751. It's alongside the box on Registered Papers No. Would that mean anything?

Magian,

The honest answer is I don't know.
Looking at a couple of sample papers on the NA, I would guess that it is for clerical use.

Is there anything on the same line, left hand side? That appears to be where the personal reference is.

An expert is needed I think.
