Hi, My Great Grandfather Christopher and his immediate family left Ireland at some point between 1901 and 1911 as they show up on the England 1911 census living in Birtley Co Durham, I also know they lived in Gateshead and his daughters and sons all married and brought up Families including my Grandmother, they all died in the Gateshead area, however as I mentioned in my last mail my Great Grandfather had two brothers that I know of Robert and James and it could be their line that is living on in Naas to this day, I am still trying to find info on them, also possibly my Great Grandfather's Father John who married Bridget Murphy may of had other sons that I am not aware of as he lived in Main Street Naas where my Great Granfather was born so the other sons could have married and settled in other areas of Naas as did my Great Grandfather in Rathasker. I would like to try to get further back than my Great Great Grandfather John Mangan as the records on the Kildare Web Site go back quite a way.
Thanks for the offer of the census, I would appreciate it if you could send it through and I will try mailing the author of the book to see if I can get a copy.
When you mention you maiden name is Murphy I have corresponded with a guy who lives in our area of England who's relatives also came over from Kildare and when I mentioned my Great Grandfathers Mother was a Bridget Murphy he said that there was a Family of Murphy's lived in Main Street Naas and suggested that maybe my Great Great Grandfather John Mangan may have married one of their Daughters Bridget as he was from that area of Naas.
Also believe it or not but on my Mothers side my Granmother's family were called Murphy and her Parents were both from Ireland, one obviously Murphy the other parent a Curtis, I think they were from the Cork area according to my Aunts on that side who are still alive, funny enough my Grandmother was called Elizabeth Ann Murphy.
I am not called Mangan by the way, my Grandmother on my Father's side was Josephine Mangan Daughter of Christopher my Great Grandfather, she married my Grandfather in Gateshead North East England in 1915. A lot of Irish people came across to North East England to work in the mines in the early 1900's, on the England 1911 census my Great Grandfather Christopher and both his sons are shown as working in the mines.
