Timekeeper

Does anyone know what a Timekeeper  was.  It was my Greatgrandfathers occupation , he lived  in Liverpool and he could have been working in the Docks.

This is a guess, but if he was working on the docks it could have been his job to record the starting and finishing times of the dock labourers, all of whom were employed as casual workers.

It wasn't just on the docks ... railways and any area which employed numbers of people

      A person responsible for making sure things happened on time e.g. worker arriving or departing, trains, coaches, omnibuses, etc.

My great-grandfather was a Timekeeper.  He checked the arrival and departure of men who worked in a factory in Grantham.  A dockworker could have the same sort of job.
