William MARTIN

I am trying to piece together snippets of info. regarding my Great grandfather William Martin, I think his date of birth may be 1837 at Hemel Hempstead. He married Sarah who was from Ashbey, Cambridgeshire and they had 3 children, Jessie Ellen, William Thomas and my grandfather Francis Joseph. Does this ring any bells with anyone who may also be researching a MARTIN family??
 Any information would be gratefully received.

Do you have his marriage cert to Sarah as that will give his fathers name

The family were in Durham in 1871 but Jessie Ellen was b 1870 Bedfordshire

The 1841 census for Hemel Hempstead has a William Martin aged 6 and a George Martin aged 8 living with a family called DOLT

Freebmd shows that a Charlotte Martin married William Dolt March qtr 1838 Watford Vol 6 Page 641

Here is the full 1841 entry - all b Herts

BUT - the IGI has an entry which shows he died in 1843 so can't be yours

Right this is where it gets 'foggy'.  The only info that I have is......1881 Census My William Martin and Sarah were living at 13 New Street Luton. William was 44, Sarah was 43, Jessie Ellen was 11 (born 1870?) in Luton, William Thomas was 8 (born 1873?) in South Shields and Francis Joseph (my grandfather) was 3 (born 1878?) in Luton.

 I don't have any docs. to refer to re William and Sarah marriage date, indeed I have no docs except my fathers birth cert (which I have ordered) so am stumbling around in the dark . 

 Any suggestions as to where I should go from here?

Did you mean you have ordered your grandfathers birth cert - Francis Joseph Martin?

If so - I would recommend that you wait until you have it as it will give Sarah's maiden name which will make tracing their marriage easier
