1841 census
« on: Saturday 08 November 08 14:28 GMT (UK) »
Trying to piece together a complicated Family! My Grt Grt Grt Granma, Harriet Goldsmith  seems to have been married twice before she married grt3 grandad. George. They are on 1841 census, there is a Jon Gerrard staying with them. I think he was her son, Could someone have a look and see if it says anything. They lived at Lane End, Market st, Stoke then.George is down as an Inn kepper. Does it say the Inn name? Thanks in anticipation.

What makes you think that Harriet had been married before.
The John Gerrard with them in 1841 may belong to this
couple.

According to I.G.I www.familysearch.org
John Gerrard christened 24 June 1832 Lane End Staffs
parents James + Mary
but also a death for him 8 June 1833
This happened to me,on checking the original parish reg, I
found the christening date was birthdate +death date the
christening.
Also a Julia Gerrard christ.11 Jan 1835 same parents as
Johns, in 1841 she is with her parents at Fenton Stoke on
Trent.

FreeBMD Marriage June qtr 1841 Stoke on Trent
George Goldsmith +Harriet Sparks.

George married Harriet sparks. I have the marriage cert, so know her fathers name is James Barker, hence you would think her maiden name is Barker. I cant find a marriage for Barker and Sparks, but I found one for  Gerrard and Sparks. (and a death for him) And I found a marriage for Barker and Gerrard. All of the dates fit. I will need to get the Gerrard /Sparks marriage cert to prove this I think. This would then explain the little boy, John, on the census.

Cally
Some of my female ancestors when marrying for 2nd
time have'nt given maiden name, may state widow +
formerly(maiden name) - I would go for the Gerrard/Sparkes
marriage,if you know the church where they wed,try asking
for a look up in the parish registers.
