lost mcloughlin, malin, donegal
« on: Saturday 08 November 08 16:30 GMT (UK) »
My grandfather was Patrick McLoughlin of the "Packa Paddy" clan.  He was married to a Sarah Doherty.  Patrick's father was Henry  Mcloughlin and I beleive his wife was Catherine  Maguire.  My grandfather Patrick lived on a small farm in Drumaville just outside Malin village.  Patrick had  sisters.   Annie, Polly, Rosella, Rena and brothers Eugene and Eugenes twin Robert who died at birth. This is as far back as I can go  Patrick was born in 1901 and died in England. Any ideas on how I can progress as I am very new to this.  Thanks to any help I get.

hello and welcome to rootschat!
it might be a good idea to get your post moved to the donegal board so that more people with a donegal interest might see it. also, take a look through the board to see if anyone else is looking for the same people.

Will have this thread moved to Donegal board where more people with local knowledge will see it and might be able to help.

There are any number of ways to find more information on this family (1901 and 1911 census records, Patrick's birth certificate, his parents' marriage certificate, etc.) but Doherty is probably the most common surname in Co. Donegal and McLaughlin is probably almost as common.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks for the help,   I am still getting to grips with how to use Roots chat.   When my dad was alive and we were small we visited Malin in Ireland and nearly everyone we met was a mcLoughlin so I know I am up against it.
