ROBERTSON in Watford: Baptism & Marriage look-ups please
« on: Saturday 08 November 08 18:30 GMT (UK) »
Hello

I am looking for birth/baptism and marriage information on Richard ROBERTSON born 1800 - 1802 in Watford

What I know:

1. He appears on the 1861 census in Hackney, MDX:

Richard Robertson age 59, occupation Warehouseman b. Watford
Frances Robertson age 67, wife  b. Watford
H. M. Clark age 26,  married, daughter b. Bethnal Green, MDX

2. He had a son named Robert born about 1822 in Hertfordshire (1871 census: age 49; living in Greenwich)

3. There is a marriage entry for the third quarter of 1847:
Richard ROBERTSON and Frances ROGERS St. Pancras, MDX
Given the place and year of this marriage, I believe Frances was not his first wife, and not the mother of his son Robert.

I am hoping there is baptism info for both Richard ROBERTSON and his son Robert ROBERTSON, and marriage info (possibly around 1820?) for Richard and the unknown mother of Robert.

Any help would be very much appreciated!
Thank you!

A quick search of the HALS online marriage index reveals no marriage for Richard in Herts to 1837 I'm afraid.

Hi

There is a baptism on the IGI (Family Search) for a Richard ROBERSON 24th March 1802, Baptist Watford, son of Robert Roberson & Martha.

He could be a likely candidate for your Richard. :) Quite a few other children baptised to the same couple in Watford, either St Marys or Baptist.

Hope this helps a little.

You are welcome,

I wonder if these burials might be of some help. :)

Robert Robertson 17th Nov 1841 aged 73 & Martha Robertson 5th Dec 1844 aged 77, both at St Marys Watford.

They should be on the 1841, sorry, but at the mo I don't have access to check for you.

Good luck.

Hello Maddie,

I really think you are on to something!  I checked the 1841 census at findmypast.com and found Robert and Martha Robertson in Watford.  It's quite possible these are Richard's parents.  Richard's son was named Robert, so as is often the case it would be no surprise if his father's name was also Robert.

This gives me something to work with...thank you so much! :)
