John Rae and Helen Rae b. Butler 1901 census
« on: Sunday 09 November 08 10:13 GMT (UK) »
I would appreciate it if someone could help me with my great great grandparents John Rae and Helen Butler. I have a 1881 census record of them living at Kintore Place Aberdeen. We have books inscribed with 99 Leslie Terrace sent to our grandfather in 1905 and think it came from them. Thus they may have moved. If it wasn't them then I would love to know who was living in Leslie Terrace Aberdeen in 1901.

Many thanks
Donovan

There is a family headed John and Helen Rae living 2 Calton Terrace  in the 1891 census.  He's a tobacco manufacturer but unfortunately it's pretty impossible to just try to find two people without details of age and who else you might have found in the family in the 1881 census.

Thanks Mary
It is definitely them as the daughter Helen had already come to South Africa and married my greatgrandfather in 1890. Is it possible to find out more about the 99 Leslie Terrace address in 1901? Long to know who sent those books.

Thank you again - most grateful
Donovan

Sorry, permission hasn't been given by General Register Office for Scotland for the images to be made available so all that I can find out was what I gave in my original response.

Hi Mary
Thank you so much for trying - most appreciated. Hopefully we may still find another book amongst the family that has more info inscribed inside.

Most gratefully
Donovan

I wonder if anybody might have street or trade directories for 1905, that might be the way to go.

Mary
