Adam Henderson born  c 1857 Scotland and  Janet C Gibson born c 1861 Scotland, married 17 November 1887 in middlesex,Ontario.

1891 census: Southwold,Elgin West,Ontario
Adam age 32
Jennet  age 28
Susan  age 2 , born Ontario
Robert  age 10 mos , born Ontario

Adams parents were Robert Henderson and Catherine Bell.Their headstone in Scotland mentions son Adam who 'died Canada' in 1891.
Janet C Gibson's parents were James and Agnes.

Believe the above Robert was born middlesex,Canada 23-5-1890(Robert Dugald Henderson)


Have been unable to find death records for any of this family.
Cannot find them on a census after 1891.
Cannot trace birth of wife,Janet C.

Maybe Janet remarried and children took step father's name?
Did they return to Scotland?


Would appreciate any help.........

I checked Ancestry... Their is a Mrs. A Henderson 42, Susie 5, Robert 1 1/2 leaving from New York, bound for Glasgow on Feb 26 1892 on the ship Ethiopia...

At Ancestry, the birth registration for Adam and Janet's daughter has her name as Susannah Henderson. Janet's name is listed as Jennet Carlisle Gibson although I don't think that's going to be much help finding her birth as there were no births under that full name (Janet/Jennet/Jane and other variations) registered in Scotland.

Also at Ancestry, on the 1901 Scotland census in Kirkmahoe, Dumfries there is an entry for Janet Henderson, 38, born: Muirkirk, Ayrs and her daughter Susannah McN Henderson, 12, born: Canada. I didn't see an entry for Robert. You can view the image at ScotlandsPeople - http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/

Also at ScotlandsPeople, there is a marriage registration dated 1911 for Susannah M'Kay Henderson to Walter Scott Halliday in Annan, Dumfries (I didn't view the image so can't say with absolute certainty this is your Susan/Susannah).

At FindMyPast there is an entry in the Outgoing UK Passenger Lists database for Mrs. Halliday, age 25 and her son Walter Halliday, age 1 departing for New Zealand aboard the Corinthic on 10 Sep 1913. There are two registrations (can't be viewed online) at ScotlandsPeople for births of boys named Walter Halliday in Dumfries - one in Annan (where Susannah was married) and one in Hoddom. There was a Walter Halliday (travelling alone) who departed for New Zealand on 4 Dec 1912 aboard the Corinthic.

In case you don't have it, Adam Henderson and Janet Gibson were listed one after the other on the passenger list of the Norwegian which arrived in Quebec on 1 Nov 1886. Here's a link to the image (they are listed near the bottom of the page):

Thanks to you both,  , we are now starting to find out more and more about this family.

Adam and Janet's son, Robert Dugald Gibson Henderson, died in Dumfries Infirmary on 22-2-1919.He was single.He had lived in Eastriggs near Annan as did his mother, who signed his DC still as Henderson so looks like she never remarried.Have a possible death for her in Dumfries , in her 90's,but can't look at it on Scotlandd's people as it is too recent.

We never managed to find deaths in Scotland for Susannah and husband Walter so your information confirms our suspicions that they moved overseas,we assumed Canada, so is very intersting to learn they sailed to New Zealand.

Also have had no luck with the birth of Janet Gibson in Muirkirk, and there are too many births in Ayrshire that could be her,if only SP was less expensive.....
