This is my first visit  to Ayrshire
I am looking for  the marriage details of
James Rocks d o b, c1825 Ireland @
Elizabeth @ d o b ,c 1823 Kilmarnock
Marriage 1860+/-2 years
Children
Edward Rocks d o b1860 Kilmarnock
William Rocks d o b 1861Kilmarnock
They moved to Glasgow some time shortly after the birth of William

Ancestry is down at the moment so I can't check this family on the census.  However - there are a number of Glasgow christenings for the children of James Rock and Elizabeth McGregor on the IGI - all in Milton between 1855-1865

You may want to take a look as follows

PARENT SEARCH ON IGI

www.familysearch.org - On home page - click on  “Advanced Search” to the right of the SEARCH button

Select “International Genealogical Index” from the left hand menu

Input fathers name and surname BUT only put mothers christian name as not all entries have the maiden name

REGION – select British Isles from the menu

COUNTRY – select Scotland

COUNTY    leave at "all counties"

Should have mentioned that I have Census for 1861 Glasgow
and 1871  Hartlepool Co Durham
It has given rise to some poor maths. I may be out for the marriage by 10 years
should be  ,c 1850 +/- 2 y

Hello Joss C

Am having difficulty reconciling your names - had a search on the IGI and on SP this morning.  How sure are you of your names and dates?
  
From SP:  Doing a search for Edwards 'Rocks' , I've only left the first 3 names of the 17 on the list.  The 1857 one according to the IGI would appear to be to Arthur Rocks and Susan McGivern and the 1859 one in Milton to a Patrick Rocks and Jane Owens.  

There are 08 Edward 'Rock' s born in Scotland between 1855 and 2006 - none born in the 1800's

You searched for: Surname: "Rocks"; Use Soundex: Off; Forename: "Edward*"; Sex: "Both"; Year From: 1855; Year To: 2006;

I am putting my faith(at the moment)0n the 1861 Scotland census

Milton Glasgow
I have James Rocks 37  born Ireland
Elizabeth Rocks 38 born Kilmarnock
Edward Rocks  12 born Kilmarnock
William Rocks 11 born Kilmarnock
As the two children born Kilmarock I am assuming at the moment  that
Kilmarock is the place of marriage @ birth of Elizabeth in surrounding parishes

As always an open mind and further research

Hello Joss C.

Your family are in Kilmarnock, 1851 census, this is only a index so limited information, you can get the original at Scotlandspeople, also their name is down as Rox, but its no doubt them.

James Rox, age 26 years,
Elizabeth Rox, age 28 years,
Edward Rox, age 2 years,
William Rox, age 1 year.

I doubt however you will find a marriage, or births, for them or the children, before 1855. in Scotland it was not compulsory to register births or marriages.
