Where is Moultin
« on: Friday 14 November 08 16:41 GMT (UK) »
I am descended from William Seton, born 1584, Moultin? Scotland. He married Jane Stewart in 1603 and had 3 children, Ann 1604, Robert 1606 & Charles 1610. Robert married Isobel Stewart in 1625. Robert & Ann came to Gedney Hill in Lincolnshire in 1626 and bought 600 acres of crown land sold off by Charles I to attract his Scottish followers. Isobel followed the next year. The family home was a farm Blackwater in Moultin. Can anyone tell me where this is. I expect it to be somewhere near Port Seton? Firth of Forth. Later the name changed to Seaton.

Hi Keith

It's interesting  that there is a Moulton in Lincolnshire, with 5 to 9 miles of Gedney Hill....

Hi AMBLE,
Yes, I am only a few miles from Moulton, Lincolnshire, at Spalding. I have a cousin of my fathers who lives there but was born at the family farm at Gedney Hill. The farm was sold off when my grandfather died and the buildings knocked down. There is now a golf course on the land I believe.
I spent many happy hours at the farm during my summer holidays helping with the harvest in the 1940S/50S. I think Moulton (not Moultin) spelled with a second o was possible established before the Seton's came down from Scotland in 1626, but I would need to check up on this.

Hi Craig,
Thanks for reply to my post. The spelling in the copy of a letter with dates etc from family bible is defiantly Moultin but I have not seen the original bible so it may have been copied or written wrong. I will have to study a map of Perthshire to see if I can find any Blackwater Farm.

Keith
