FOKERS IN ESSEX
« on: Friday 16 April 04 13:40 BST (UK) »
I am at a brickwall with the surname FOKER in Essex around the Great Warley area in the 1800's, they were at the Fox Inn, Great Warley.  I cannot seem to find where they came from prior to that?  Any thoughts welcomed, they seem to have been beamed from outer space.

Hi!

Go to the family search site, click on search, type in surname Foker, and click on square for exact spelling, it will bring quiet a few of that name up for you.

Yes I have tried that but there seems to be a gap to link them but that was a while ago I will revisit the site and carry it all out again.  A fresh pair of eyes might find it, many thanks.

Hi,
Try essexpubs in google [url]http://www.essexpubs.net[//url]. It does not return a name for fokers, so they have obviously changed their name to something similar, but I would guarantee you should find your person.
This site was constructed by Ian Hunter,  a one person crusade - he died last year, but the site has been left intact for all  to share

Thanks I had the pleasure of discussing this with Ian sadly before he passed away.  I am trying to find where the Fokers came from before 1878 I am afraid and it looks like they did not arrive at The Fox until 1878.

Many thanks for your help, and it only serves to remind me of the brilliant work Ian carried out sadly before he died.

Hi,
According to the civil registrations, maybe -- William Foker married a Margaret Victoria Mileham in 1874, in the Romford district. A William Foker died in the Romford district aged 60, in 1897, possibly the same person.
There is also, in 1901, if this fits, a Mabel Foker, aged 21. She has parents Walter Foker (50) & Margaret (55) plus children, Norman (23), Mabel (21), Ernest (18), Albert (16), Isabelle (14), Noyle ? (son, 12), and Arthur (6). They are all born in Rainham, then Isabella onwards are born in Bow , except Margaret who is born in Reading, Hants.
No idea if this is useful, but good luck.

Hi,
Well your entry shows William as being born in Wokingham, Berks. William Fokes (33) born Wokingham and sister Emma Fokes (22) born Windsor, plus mum Anne Fokes (60) born Whittlesey, Cambs. They are all living in Egham, Surrey in 1871. This fits in with all the other details.
Best
