This one is a bit of a brick wall, Linda. The IGI batch numbers for Greenlaw on the Hugh Wallis site only has the female names but there are no Colmans there. The only James Colman I can find around that time, on S.P. free search was chr 1807, Dunbar, East Lothian. However that is a bit away from  Greenlaw.

hi excel, thanks for answering my post. on the 1851 census it's says born  greenlaw berwickshire. census taken county midlothian edinburgh.

1861 census taken county durham england  born scotland .   on both his occ. is whitesmith.  wife on both says berwick on tweed.

i don't know much abt. the area, it could be him i just don't know.  1851 census says 42 age born abt.1809 and 1861 says age 53 so it could be. it states travelling whitesmith, even with the 1841 census i'm trying to trace him with my 3xgrandmother born abt 1829/30.  i want to thankyou for the info i appreciate your time.   :) :)     wish me luck.
