William King b. abt 1834 Ladykirk - marriage or 1861 census?
« on: Tuesday 18 November 08 01:52 GMT (UK) »
Hello Rootschatters, Yet another elusive King ancestor of mine!  ???  William King was b. abt 1834 in Ladykirk, a son of Thomas King and Elizabeth Paulin. He is with his parents in both 1841 and 1851 as a groom.  His Mother, Elizabeth, died in 1855 in Ladykirk and I have been unable to find a marriage for William anywhere in Berwickshire. He did not stay with his widowed Father who has been found in all applicable censuses until his death in 1886 in NBL, England.  I am now thinking that William MAY have gone on to either Edinburgh or Glasgow as some of his siblings did......can any sharp-eyed Rootschatter spot William in 1861 in Scotland?  Thank you most sincerely.  Pat

Heading says b abt 1830
Message says 1834

How accurate can you be?  It makes a big difference.

Pat.
I should have said in my earlier post, you can view the image of the birth on ScotlandsPeople ( http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk )

Your next move could then be looking for his death record.

If you find that, it will show whether he married or not, give wifes name and re-confirm parents names (evidence you've got the correct one)

If you search deaths from 1855 in the whole of Scotland for William King born 1834 +/- 1 year, there are 9 hits.  I've looked at 2,3 and 8 and none are him.

To view birth image will cost 1GBP.  To look at the 6 other deaths will cost £6GBP.

If he married, knowing the wifes name will obviously make it easier to find a marriage and entries on the census records.

I recommend NOT using SP for looking up census records.

I hope this helps and I'd be interested if you get a result.

Good luck.

Dave

Hello Dave, Thank you for the information. I'm still kind of new to Scottish research. I do not have an account yet with Scotland's People.  Looks like I may very well have to do so...Thanks for the advice and for pointing me in the right direction.  Pat

I'm happy to try and help.  Come back if you get stuck.  I, or other Rootschatters will be pleased to help.

As I was typing the last post, I was a bit concerned I was 'teaching my granny to suck eggs'  ;D
