Lowdens had a Buchers Shop in Hensingham - Whitehaven up to 1993,    Wonder if it is the same family.

Search here for LOWDON in WHITEHAVEN www.192.com

You will need to buy credits for full details, but a Sydney LOWDON is there.

Or ...

try and make contact through the Whitehaven RLFC http://www.marras.co.uk/index.html

Someone at the club may have contact with him.

:) :)
Hello again from Australia,
I am still trying to find the birth place of my Great Grandfather Robert Lowdon/Lowden[1842?-1909]
He is living in the Parish of Prudhoe, Reg Dist Hexham,Sub Dist Bywell in the 1881 Census.
His birth place is given as earinton,Cumberland, which I took to mean Harrington Cumberland.and the birth year is given as 1844.
1901 Census says born abt 1842
Where born -Workington
Still in Parish of Prudhoe,Reg Dist Hexham,Sub Reg Bywell but it also says town West Wylam and Street address
North End.
I still can find no wedding for him and Ann Gibbons, any suggestions what to do next.
I would like to know his parents names and where they came from, and if he had any siblings.
Thank you for reading my email

In 1871 Robert is unmarried and a lodger in Prudhoe.  Born "Arinton"    Rg10 5143 19 10
That is interesting as son John is 33 in 1901 so he may have been born before marriage?  It might be worth widening your search to dates after his birth.
Which birth cert do you have to prove that Ann's name is Gibbons?   I was just wondering if she might have been married before so married Robert under her married name.  Are there any Robert to Ann marriages?  There is another couple in Cockermouth which is confusing but I would think your pair married in either Durham or Northumberland.  There is an Ann Gibbons age 16, born Durham, who is a servant in 1861 in Northumberland.  Apart from John all the children are born in Prudhoe.

I will try again,I have found the birthplace, and family of Robert Lowden/don 1841,he is the one that was Christened at All Saints Church in Cockermouth in 1843,he was Christened on the same day as his brother,James,he has a few more siblings Christened there,Joseph Lowden 1846,Thomas 1849,Mary1850,and Mary ann 1852,an older brotherWilliam J was born in Ireland,I found two more siblings another Thomas, and Hannah but no Christening details.
I found the family in 1851 at Vinegar Hill ? Cockermouth where it says parents Joseph 1817,and Sarah 18117,were born in Ireland.
Most of the family seem to stay in the Cockermouth area,in 1881 Robert's mum is a widow living with her son Thomas 1855 Stone mason, daughter Hannah 1857,and Hannah's three year old son John James 1878.
Yes that is Robert [Boarder] in the 1871 Census, still single.
Ann Gibbons is the only name given on the birth Certificate for John Lowden 1865,in fact her name is the only one on the birth Certificate for Elizabeth 1869,both her and Roberts name appear [married ] on the Certificate for William 1875,this is the Child Robert left everything to in 1909,when he died.Does this mean he thinks of William as his first born son ?
The Ann Gibbons servant in the 1861 Census is the one Robert married------well we think he did,she returned to live with her father after the death of her mother in 1871.
So I have a few more leads to go on,but would like to ask a question,if any one can help, where would I find a photograph of All Saints Church, and does it have a grave yard.
Thank you.
