Look Up Please?

McClaughey family in Co Fermanagh 1901 Census.  It looks as though all seven of them are together in the one household.

I’m now becoming desperate to find out where 3yo Francis was born (and the rest of his family), so that I can get a copy of his birth certificate.

The various spellings of his surname and the fact that the family moved around quite a bit (and that I’ve spent more than the weeks household budget in trying to find him!) means I have to ask the favour.

Please and thank you!

Thank you so much!  That's the family.

Does that mean that the family were all BORN in

Drumclay Galloon Fermanagh

OR

is that just where they were when the census was taken?

(please let it be their place of births!!)

Thanks again.

Census records will show the residence of the family at the time the census was taken. Birthplace will be the county of birth if born in Ireland not the townland of birth.

Apologies for my ignorance but....

Does the census info generously provided by John show me the place of birth?

Hi Kate B

Not possible to say if this is where they were born but since the last child is only 1 month I is a good chance.
Try the Fermanagh board to see if anyone local would have any information.
There are records at PRONI for a Roman Catholic church at Galloon (Drumully, Newtownbutler),Fermanagh, Microfilm reference number, MIC1D/15 (Vols 1-2). Some kind person might look this up the next time their are in.

As I just explained, the census does not list an exact place of birth (except on very rare occasions when it's filled out incorrectly). The family John posted is living in the townland of Drumclay in the parish of Galloon in County Fermanagh. To find the places of birth you need to order the birth certificates (civil registration of births started in 1864).
However, as John as just posted, since the first child is listed as 1 month old there's a good chance that at least that child would have been born in Drumclay townland.

There's a Drumclay Road just outside Enniskillen- leaving Enniskillen on Irvinestown Road (A32) take right onto Lower Chanterhill Road and then a right onto Drumclay Road (there's a nursing home there now).

Thanks for that.

John, I've just posted on the Co Fermanagh page, as you suggested, asking for help from SKS going to PRONI.

Thanks to you both.
