Hi Carol
Thanks for your help, it is much appreciated.
The wedding I'm looking for was allegedly on 13 Dec 1828 in "Henley, Staffordshire". However, the couple I know were probably living in Shropshire at the time, and Martha Dovey was certainly a Shropshire lass.
There is, obviously no Henley in Staffordshire, but there is one in Shropshire, so my thoughts were that Staffordshire was an error. The problem then is that Henley is a small estate and as far as I know there's no church there. I then looked at other locations where I knew there were family relatives, for examnple Himley in Staffordshire where several Doveys were married, and Highley in Shropshire, but all to no avail. I've checked the IGI through a combination of Hugh Wallis' site and a map to identify churches close to where the couple lived and have been unable to turn up anything, even obscure name variants. Some of the couple's children give Henley Staffordshire as a place of birth, but I know this can't be true. I do know that the spouse's relatives worked a corn mill in Blythe Bridge and so there is the possibility of as yet undiscovered family in the area that might be a reason for a marriage in or around Hanley.
Sadly, my original source is "too busy" or "can't remember" where his information came from, and too far away for me to visit. It is possible, of course, that there was no marriage at all, but that seems to go against the family tradition (at least until much later :-O).
Regards
David
