Hi,
I have at last managed to break down a huge brick wall, and have found another to take its place!
Lieutenant John Gordon b. 1808 at Aberdour, Fife, was the son of Boswell Gordon b. 1775 at Kinghorn, Fife and Helen Moyes. He enlisted in the 91st Regiment of Foot in Dec 1825 and rose to the rank of Lieutenant. He married Ann Flannagan at Manchester Cathedral in 1832 and they eventually were posted with the regiment to St Helena and then on to South Africa where John was killed in Dec 1850 at Fort Cox (Cape Colony) during the 8th Frontier War. He was my daughters' g-g-g-g-grandfather.
Boswell Gordon was the son of William Gordon b. 1747 at Penninghame, Wigtown, and Barbara Henderson.
I am trying to go back further and possibly establish a link to the Boswells in the area; the Boswell name has come down in three generations of the family.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Kind regards,
Tisy
