Clack at Fawler or Finstock?
« on: Friday 28 November 08 08:58 GMT (UK) »
James Clack (b. abt 1826) says in the censuses that he was from Fawler?
But in 1901 he changes his mind and says he was from Finstock?

Could someone check the c. recs for me?

By 1881, he has married and moved to Clanfield, but I already have 3 James Clacks who were c. at Clanfield around 1826, so it would help to discover who the Fawler fellow belongs to?

hello,

there is only a mile between the 2 places and they were small hamlets ...i looked through all the 1841 pages for both hamlets and they were no Clack families in either  :(

i have ancestors from Fawler.

in 1891 it says fa???r...somewhat smudged, but it certainly does not say finstock

1901 census of a James Clack and Lucy is duplicated .... Retired soldier . Does that mean you still have 3 in 1901 ?

Thank you for checking for me!
Sadly, the census bods didn't manage to spell his pob the same way twice!

I have managed to trace all three of the James Clacks c. at Clanfield, so I will have to tell the relative of James & Lucy, who contacted me, that her James was NOT one of those three.
I had hoped I would be able to point her in the right direction.....

Thank you so much!

I had checked for Charlbury on the IGI, because of it's proximity to Fawler, but only found 4 c. records.... 2 of which were Edward & Susannah's offspring, but James was not listed.

I thought there must be a link, as by 1830, Edward & Susannah are at Clanfield and there are 5 c. records there.

Are there perhaps any more Clack records at Charlbury  ???
Edward was not c. at Clanfield, but I would like to find out how he links in to the Clanfield Clacks......

I have tracked Edward and Susannah Clack through the census and have discovered that Susannah was from Fawler, but Edward says he came from Eaton Hastings...
Thanks once again for giving me the missing link!

Wonderful! Thanks for the marriage record.

So Susannah was a Hathaway..... it looks as if her mother may have been a Vashti, seeing as the first daughter was given that name?
Some of the more outlandish biblical names do give rise to very strange spelling, I fear...... ;D
