Hi Annie,

Re War Graves

Grandfather, WW1 Digger, severely wounded France 1917, recovered, returned to France, gassed, recovered returned to France etc, - walking wounded and returned to Sydney on ship arriving Feb 1919.  Married April 1919, had just one child of the marriage, then sadly, dies of those wounds.  His remains were interred Rookwood, in a family plot and his name added to a headstone with his wife's family.  I wrote to CWGC recently to advise them of the location, cited exact details, reference numbers etc., so they could update that Roll of Honour.

Got email reply, explaining basically if he had been in plot by himself, and with headstone without any other names, then they would have been interested in maintaining the plot, but as he is there with others, they will not add the details to their records to protect the privacy of (his wife's grandparents!) the other family.

I had not asked for them to maintain the plot, I had asked for them to put the plot number and references on their records!  When I wrote back to try to sort that out, I got a bland letter advising me of Freedom of Information provisions !!!

So, I wish you all the best of good luck in the CWGC tasks ahead !

Cheers,

MA

Hi

I have been searching the SMH on the NLA site for one of my family members and I noticed a large notice in the SMH of 20.11.1917 page 6 regarding Reginald Duckworth,  I thought that I would let you know in case you have not seen it, I remembered the surname Duckworth at Waverley Cemetery

All the best

Cass

I am wondering if Cass or someone else who has the Waverley Cemetery CD could look up Michael EVISTON who died Feb 15 1916 and is possibly buried in Waverley Cemetery as that is the suburb he lived in. I am keen to know how old he was when he died and anything else on him.
Help much appreciated
Kathleen
