Withers - Cromwell - a castle

It's a family tale that a Withers from Leicester/Leicestershire was rewarded with a castle in Ireland by one of the Cromwells for services rendered, and that it was lost because they hadn't the funds to maintain it.
Any info would be most interesting.

The George Wither associated with the Parliamentary Forces and the abandonment of Farnham Castle was born near Alton in Hants ....

The castle story could well have begun with George Wither - what are his dates? Another one bites the dust.  Ho hum.

Have just read about Wither at Farnham - can't be the same stock as mine - at that time they were all butchers, bakers and, yes, candlestick makers ( well, at least fellmongers who, I understand had something to do with tallow).  Very infra dig.
