William SMITH born 1840 in Stoke Damerel
« on: Sunday 07 December 08 05:28 GMT (UK) »
Not a good name - I'm looking for the Christening of William Smith, son of William and Mary Smith, born Jan-Mar 1841. Father's occupation was a solider (private) in the 11th Regiment. The family's other children was baptised in C of E churches.

cheers

Hope you still need this lookup but here is what i found on the microfische today

William Smith baptised Stoke Damerel 7th February 1841. Parents were William and Mary and they lived in Devonport. Father listed as a Private (Soldier)

Ian,

Thank you so much for your help - it's greatly appreciated. My delay in writing was due to travel (first time back in Aus in 4 years).

These Smiths are hard to track (william and mary smith!) his occupation is correct - William travelled to Australia shortly afterwards and left the regiment to settle in Sydney where he died.

Again, thank you.

cheers,
matt
