Mary VERNON of Peak Forest - help find parents please?
« on: Monday 08 December 08 13:32 GMT (UK) »
Mary Vernon married Matthew Goodwin at the Peak Forest chapel in 1860. She gave Samuel Vernon, farmer, as her father's name.

The Goodwins have been fairly easy to trace, they had a farm at Oxlow End.  But can anyone help with tracing Mary Vernon's family? Vernon seems to be such a common name in these parts  :-\

In 1841 Mary Vernon was a servant in Salford, Lancs in Ellen Worthington's house. I'm not sure where she was in 1851, but she might be a servant for Thomas Cooper in Macclesfield Forest. In subsequent censuses as Mary Goodwin, she puts place of birth Peak Forest.

There is a baptism on IGI for a Mary Vernon, 21 Sept 1828, parents Samuel and Mary. IGI has no marriage listed for Samuel and Mary, although it does list one for Samuel and Martha (Jackson), July 1828!

Any suggestions would be very welcome,
 :) Barbara
