Does anyone have Wadhurst PRs?
« on: Tuesday 09 December 08 09:06 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Just wondering if anyone has sight of Wadhurst PRs?  I'm trying to find a death of William Peckham about 1710.

My Stephen Pilbeam born about 1668 in Wadhurst married a widow Dorothy Peckham of Wadhurst in 1711 (SMI) and I am trying to establish if she was Dorothy Glyd of Dallington who married William Peckham of Wadhurst 1707 (SMI) so I need to find his death.

Also if anyone is able to check for a baptism of Stephen Pilbeam I would be grateful, all I have seen so far have been submitted records.

Thanks

Kerry

I haven't checked this info, but I have Stephen Pilbeam christened 18th October 1668, St Peter and St Paul, Wadhurst. I'm no expert at research, being a bit of a beginner, but I hope this helps (my 6th great grandfather.) Merry Christmas!

When Stephen married Dorothy he was about 43 years of age.
There is no mention of their marital status on the parish record.

I do note a tree on Ancestry which states that Dorothy Peckham was born 1668 Dallington, Northamptonshire but when you click on the tree it becomes Dallington, Sussex.

Father   Richard Glyde (1645-1690)
Mother   Elizabeth Munn (1651-1686)
Spouse   Stephen Pilbeam (1668-1732)

So on freereg you get this.

Dorothy GLYD   Baptism   13 Jun 1685   Sussex   Dallington : St Giles : Parish Register

   Dorothy Glyde
Marriage Date:   26 Jun 1707
Marriage Place:   Mountfield, Sussex, England
Spouse:   William Packham

Above on Ancestry, he was of Wadhurst, she of Dallington.

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

Just looking at the record for the marriage again the date below is the Julian calendar, which the church was still using. This would only affect records before Lady Day at the end of March, records after that date would be the same, for Example William's  Burial  was 12 Jun 1711

Marriage Date:   28 Feb 1711

The Gregorian calendar, which would have been introduced at the church at some point would make the year 1712.

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.
