Louis WISE - West Lavington
« on: Sunday 14 December 08 08:03 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to trace a record of a birth in 1858 give or take a year or two for a Louis Wise. He may also be known as George Louis Wise from West Lavington. The 1901 Census from Tottenham says he was Louis Wise, born in West Lavington. Married to Emily Jane Wise (nee Camp). Any record of Louis's family living in West Lavington would be greatly appreciated. He may also have lived in Devizes.

I think Erchfort might be Urchfont:

Found this christening:

William Wise
Birth Date 16 May 1827, christening Date 23 January 1831
Urchfont, Wiltshire
Father Thomas Wise, mother Mary

Oddly enough there seems to be another christening for the same boy on 18 September 1827  ???

Searching for siblings in the IGI batch, I see he had (among other siblings) a brother Lewis christened in 1838

I can post the 1851 census details for this family if you wish (William not at home though). They're completely eluding me in 1841 however.

Many thanks for that extra info and the trouble you have taken to research this for me. :)

I had searched the 1871 census but couldn't find the William Wise family except an Elizabeth Wise (widow) living in Islington which is where the family later lived and where my grandfather  Victor Frederick Wise was born in 1889.

Yes, a bit odd about the christenings too.

Not to worry meantime about the Paul Wise details from the 1851 Census but if you do happen to see anything from 1841 it would be great.

Welcome to rootschat, Johanna.

I do not think that cammie has been on rootschat for several years, but as long as they have the same email address they can still be contacted, so keep your fingers crossed.
