Bunkers Hill

Hi all,

  In the 1901 census my gr grandma was listed as being a servant for a family in Bunkers Hill, St Alphege in Solihull, can anyone shed any light as to where this is now as I cannot seem to find it?

If you go to the beginning of the enumerator's book it should tell you the route he took,this will give you an idea of where it was.My guess is it was the name of an estate.Can you put up the RG. ref.

sorry Jim but I haven't a clue where to find or how to get a RG ref, and I am not sure what the enumerators book is or where it is. I know I've been doing this a while now but its been very stop n start and I'm only doing basic searches.
Any help would be appreciated

You said you found them on the 1901 census,the ref. is at the bottom of the page
RG10/piece no./folio no./page no.
If you give me the names I'll have a look.

OK got that bit it's RG13/2921 and its Emily Maria Biden No75 in column 1.

The no. you gave is incorrect,I've searched RG13/piece no.2921/Folio 75/page 1 but not recognised by Ancestry.Emily Biden doesn't appear under that spelling in 1901.
Can you give it another try.

Sorry Jim my fault, the RG is 13/2921 but it's page 12 she was working as a domestic cook for the Cross family.

Thanks for the info. Pam.
Looking at the OS. map of that time doesn't show Bunker's Hill,probably a locally named estate or area long gone.I know the area which is between Bentley Heath and Hillfield Hall (now luxury apartments).I still believe this was an estae owned by the Cross family with some properties rented out.Looking at the route taken by the enumerator it's somewhere opposite what is today Copt Heath golf club,other side of the M42.Just enter Copt Heath,it should take you to the area.
