PROV Outwards Immigration to be extended to 1896
« on: Monday 15 December 08 03:00 GMT (UK) »
Perhaps PROV website which is not functioning at the moment,  is preparing to launch tomorrow 16th Dec and maybe the new Probate and Wills database...again

PROV's volunteers have been busy again this year preparing the next instalment of the outwards immigration index, which will cover the period 1887-1896

Cheers

Hi  cando,
I think the outward listings are already there for the 1890's.
When you look on the INDEX page for the list of general online indexes, it says 'outward passengers to 1896'
But on the search page, it still says passengers to 1886.
When you search for a name in the 1890's, it comes up done and digitised.
So looks like they forgot to change th search page heading!
Sue

PS Just found a family of mine heading off for trip home to England [via ports] Now I know their departure date and vessel!

And managed to download three wills tonight...but you need patience...very, very, slow.

I have telephone PROV last week and today and find the staff to be extremely pleasant and helpful...even if they couldn't tell me when the website would be up and running again.  Last week it was server problems.  I notice that the Probate and Will Index will be back online later in December.

The site is working for me.  You can't search the Wills and Probate Index as it has been taken down.  Have you the index number for the will?  I can have a look for you to see if it has been digitised.

The website only says later in December.

You click on the file number and it opens another page with the option to order [for reading at PROV] or read digitised...can't remember the exact wording but I know I clicked on digitised.  If it hasn't been digitised there is only an order box.

Edit...I think there may have been some sort of icon to the left of the Will Index no and file number which may indicate if it has been digitised.
