Great-grandfather John Thomas Wheeler came to America at the age of 16 years, arriving on april 24, 1869. He was born in Westmeath on November 11, 1852. I believe he was born in Lynn. He was Catholic. Hs mother, it has been said, was related to George Bernard Shaw. His father was also named John. He had at least three brothers. One came to New York and was a priest at St. Patrick's Cathedral and another worked for the railroad. Another brother, Mathew, remained in Ireland.

As you can see, I have little information on his early life. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello lieut,

It's a pity you haven't got John's mother's maiden name. I wonder if her relationship was to GBS's father George Carr Shaw (1814-1885) or his mother Lucinda Elizabeth (née Gurly) (1830-1913).
