1851 Census - missing family Hull or Sculcoates
« on: Tuesday 16 December 08 11:28 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I am looking for a family in the 1851 census but I have had no luck maybe due to a misspelling of the name.

William Pearson (unknown birth date or location) married Eliza Staves in 1841 in Hull. Eliza's birth date ranges from 1821 to 1826 (on other censuses) - she was born in Lincolnshire.

They have 2 children by 1851: Sarah Jane b 1847 and John William b 1849. In 1847 the family was living in Porter Street, Hull.

As far as I can tell Eliza and Sarah Jane lived in Hull all their lives but I cannot find them anywhere on the 1851 censuses.

Any help gratefully received.

P.S Eliza is not a shortened version of Elizabeth on Sarah Jane's birth certificate and on other censuses she is always Eliza.

Yes, I have that one. Eliza has been a bit difficult to track around the years as she was married 3 times lol

I have come across a Sarah S Pearson, mother Elizabeth, the right birth year but Hains as father and not William. I know her father was William as I have Sarah's birth certificate. William died in about 1859, hence why Eliza remarried in 1860.

I have searched with first name only and no last name for families living in Hull and can't find a record that totally matches :(

Thanks for looking. I have Eliza in 1871 (she remarried) and I have Sarah Jane as she was married too. Although, I lose sight of Eliza again until 1901 when she is living with Sarah Jane.

It's not of very high importance, just my own curiosity as to where the family were in 1851. I will keep looking :)

Thank you, at least I now know that the record exists. Unfortunately I cannot find anything at all on An**try. I was wanting to attach the record to the tree I have there and keep a back up copy of the image but unfortunately no matter which way I search it simply will not bring anything up, even when I just search on George in 1851 :(
