Looking for Robert
« on: Wednesday 17 December 08 10:44 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find out about Robert Cable Barge, born Wandsworth 1859, who went to Sydney in 1879 and was a witness at the marriage of my great grandparents John Barge and Charlotte Millett.   Robert died in Australia in 1913.  His brother Fred was in Wandsworth prison in 1891.  Does anyone know anything about either brother???

Having a browse on the NSW BDM's I noticed these two marriages.  No way of knowing if it is you Robert Cable BARGE...unless you know of any additional names.

http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/search.htm

1254/1898
BARGE      ROBERT C H V H
SHORE      MARY J
District LEICHHARDT

9726/1904
BARGE    ROBERT C H V H
WENHAM    FRANCES E
District PADDINGTON

There are no births to these couples to 1907.

His name does not appear in the Australian Electoral Rolls 1900-1936.

In the 1930 Australian Electoral Roll for NSW

BARGE Francis Eliza  13 Avenue Road, Glebe   Needle worker

No other BARGE at the address.

If you were to purchase a transcription of Robert's death registration you may find out more about him ie if he married etc.

16731/1913
BARGE      Robert C
Father Richard    Mother  Mary A
District St Leonards

Transcriptions are a cheaper and quicker option to purchasing full certificates.

Cando,

Many thanks for this info!  I'm pleased to think Robert may well have settled down and had a family in Oz.  His brother was in prison in the UK in 1891....
