Thanks to you all - the links have been really usefull though it would be much simpler if I really could assume "of this parish" meant they were born there. I now see the answers were there in rootschat all along but doing a search for "of this parish" didn't help before I wrote the query. Maybe we need a section for "answers to obvious questions" but who would be kind enough to maintain such a sectionh.
