William Cline marriage

My ancestor was William Cline, married to Ellen possibly around 1838. I have evidence of births of children 1839 in Ballincollig,and 1840 in Charlemont. William Cline was in the British army possibly based in/near Ballincollig. There doesn't seem to be evidence of their marriage in army records although their children's baptism certificates were recorded in army returns. Can any one help please? I've no idea where to go from here with this. I would love to find out whether Ellen, my gt. gt. grandmother was Irish!

You have the same post under Co. Cork and here under Co. Armagh. Is there a connection to Armagh?

Yes- I posted the same message in the two counties because I understand that Charlemont is in Armagh and ballincollig in Cork....just in case!

I see now but are you sure that the two baptisms are for the same family? The reason I would query this is the two are only a year apart and it's quite a distance from Co. Armagh and Co. Cork.

Thanks for your interest. I’m sorry I’ve just realised I’ve made a mistake in my original post!
I have a birth and baptism certificate for William Owen born 1st January 1839 to William and Ellen Cline. William is in the 4th Battalion Royal Artillery.
The next ‘sighting’ is on the 1841 Census when William & Ellen are in the Royal Artillery base in Woolwhich with 7 month old Mary. Both Mary and Ellen are down as born in Ireland. I haven’t got Mary’s birth cert yet but have the reference which shows that she was born in Charlemont 1840. Sadly they do not have William with them in Woolwhich ? died at this stage.
The next certificate shows that they are in Demerara, the West Indies where Ellen Alice was born 30 March 1843. William’s battalion information is the same.
Then, my grt. grandfather Richard was born to them in Barbados on 28 June 1845. They were based in St. Anne’s Garrison – battalion information still the same. Subsequent info from census and marriage certs. etc show Richard in Liverpool where he married in 1873.

There will be no birth certificates in Ireland before 1864 so unless you can find church records recording the baptisms there probably won't be any way to get more details in Ireland.
Have you searched for William's military files yet?  (especially pension file) often they give marriage details and information on any children.
