Hello Paul,

Welcome to Rootschat - its a really brilliant site.  I've had loads of help, and I'm sure you will too!

You haven't given any dates for your Gladstone family, so I'm not sure what information you have already.

I had a quick look at the 1901 census, and found what might be your family living at 135 Waterloo Street, Hull -

William Gladstone, Head, age 50  Fish dealer
Alice  Gladstone     wife           50
William                   son            24   Fish dealer
Sophia                  dau             22
Harold                   son             15
Lizzie                    dau              13
Alice                      dau              12
Edith                     dau               6
Harry                     son               2

All the family were born in Hull.

There is another family of Gladstones, Arthur and Georgina, who were living at 7 Worsley Street, Hull - also fish dealers.

And here's a link to the Kelly's Directory of Hull, 1899, which shows William Gladstone again, at 135 Waterloo Street - http://www.historicaldirectories.org/hd/d.asp

Hope this helps,

Hi

If the info 'Yorkslass' provided is the right family then a possible marriage from yorkshirebmd is William C Gladstone to Alice Porter in 1869 at All Saints, Sculcoates.

happy hunting

Hi Paul

You might like to investigate the Freebmd site to see if you can locate births, marriages or deaths in your Gladstone family:

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/

I have had a quick look for William Gladstone, the father, and could not find his birth or marriage but I think the birth of William, the son, is recorded as

Births Sep 1876 GLADSTONE William Con* Sculcoates 9d 196

This means that the birth was registered in the July-September quarter of 1876 in the Sculcoates registration district (now Hull or Holderness district).  Con* suggests that the transcriber could not read the end of the second name - I think the name is Conyers, not least because you can find the birth of Sophia Conyers Gladstone recorded in Jul-Sep 1878 in Sculcoates.  I have not looked for the other children.

Good luck
