TAME Wills/Admons, Harwell, Ardington
« on: Thursday 25 December 08 11:22 GMT (UK) »
Been searching for the Wills or Administrations of two of my direct ancestors without any luck.  Neither seems to be in the PCC or Berkshire wills index or Wiltshire wills which covers the Sailsbury Diocese.
If anyone can shed any light on where else I might look I'd be very grateful.

Thomas Tame B.1728 Milton, died we think in Harwell 1809, Wife Rachel Sanders (Saunders)
Robert Tame B.1764 Harwell, D 1836 Ardington, Wife Sarah Dearlove  (Nee Titcombe)

Both were Yeoman farmers and lived in the immediate surrounding area all their lives.

Thanks for confirming that if I can find a Will or Administration around the same date I hope to be able to confirm that it was the same Thomas as there were a few about in that area at the same time!

If there is no will in the PCC, Wiltshire or Berkshire wills then you are unlikely to find one anywhere else.

I am presuming that you have searched the index at the BRO and not just printed indexes for Berks wills?

If, like me, you live nowhere near the Berks Record Office, you could try their website:

http://www.berkshirerecordoffice.org.uk

There's a contact box to click on. As you only have 2 wills to look up and have the approximate dates, it's worth emailing them with the details and they might just look them both up for you without charge. They would, of course, charge for any copies to be posted out to you but it's not that much - and usually well worth it for the detail in the content of the will.

Thanks for your replies.  I've been through the indexes at the BRO a number of times and for other areas with no luck, the issue is one of looking in the correct place I guess.
I know for a fact that Robert Tame at least owned land and property so there must be a will/administration/probate somewhere!
Thank you

Tom

HI tomtame,
Just been looking at the Harwell PRs I have on disc and just came across the marriage of ;
Thomas Tame (husbandman) by Licence to Rachel Sanders, Sp. on 1-12-1761".

You may already have this information but I also have "Tame's" in my tree which is why I was searching
trying to find the marriage of Thomas Tame & Esther somewhere about 1720-30.
Indeed my John Tame (b 1733 Harwell)  may have been the brother of your Thomas Tame b1728
and the common factor being Thomas Tame  the senior.

Do you have any info you could share as I am convinced yours and my trees meet at the point.
regards
Alan

Hi Alan
Thanks for replying.  I have that wedding thank you, the Thomas who got married to Rachel had 1 brother as far as I can tell, William, but they were born in Milton to Thomas and Alice (Edney) so I think your tames are seperate, probably cousins.
I'm hoping to find time to take it back further and I'm pretty sure all the Tames in Harwell, Milton, etc are related but I think maybe about the turn of the century.
If you are interested in what I have I can e-mail you.
