QLD Electoral Roll 1949
« on: Sunday 28 December 08 04:11 GMT (UK) »
Hello

Was wondering if anyone had access to commonwealth electoral roll 1949.  I am looking for a Colin Deen and Maureen Deen (or Pritchard).  I believe they may have been living around Annerley in Brisbane .  I was also wondering what month in 1949 the electoral roll was completed?
Any help would be appreciated.

Thank You.

Mel

"Federal elections were held in Australia on 10 December 1949. All 121 seats in the House of Representatives, and 42 of the 60 seats in the Senate were up for election, where the single transferable vote was introduced. The incumbent Australian Labor Party led by Prime Minister of Australia Ben Chifley was defeated by the opposition Liberal Party of Australia led by Robert Menzies with coalition partner the Country Party led by Arthur Fadden."

It was usual for the Electoral Rolls to be closed up to 4 weeks prior to the Election.  So, the Electoral Roll for the 1949 Federal election would have closed in early November 1949.

You may be able to get a precise date for the closure of the Federal Electoral Roll for the Griffith Electorate Queensland by following the links from -

Hope this assists you
