Hi,

I am doing a one name study of the Rossiter family and am looking for information please about the parents, grandparents, siblings and children of William Rossiter who was baptised on July 5th 1825 at Helpringham. His parents are William & Sarah Rossiter but I have no further details about them.

The Rossiters were scattered in various places all over Lincolnshire including Minting, Lenton, Spanby, Osbourneby, Somerby,Keddington, Aslackby, Moulton to name but a few.

The various lines are partly documented but have yet to be fully linked up. William & Sarah are not amongst those I have documented in my database hence this posting.

Details of other Rossiters discovered would be helpful.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

Best wishes

Interestingly, the IGI batch for Helpringham C029151 has seven children of William ROSSITER 1821-31 ... all except the 1825 one give the mother's name as Martha.

My Lincs marriage index has no William ROSSITER marriage to a Sarah.

I suspect they may have been the couple who married in Lincoln in 1815 (with children there in 1817 and 1819).
Don't cry because its over. Smile because it happened.

Hi Wozzle / GeoffE,

Thanks for that. I have this couple in my database as William Rossiter and Martha Lund who were married at St Botolph in 1815.

They had at least 9 children between 1817 and 1831, though I'm not sure what happened to all of them.

It seems unlikely that this William married twice. Are there any marriage records that might turn up a surname for Sarah please?

Best wishes

I don't believe there ever was a Sarah, I suspect the name appears as a clerical error - as I said, my marriage index doesn't have any marriage to a Sarah.

If there was a Sarah, I guess you have to try and explain why William and Martha didn't bother to have the William who was with them in 1841 christened (unlike their other 8 kids).

Have fun separating the ROSSITERs from the ROSSINGTONs in your study!

Cheers GeoffE,

Thanks for that. It's not unknown for there to be clerical errors particularly with all the spelling variations of Rossiter.

It would certainly fit the time scale.

Do you happen to know if the 1841 Census for Lincolnshire is on line please?

All the Best for New Year

Hi,  this is a message for rcuser.

I am researching ROSSETTERs in Chichester and saw your old messages about Edward ROSSETTER.  I think I can help you with this query.

Let me know if you're still looking for information.
