I now have a photo of the headstone from South Taranaki Distict Council.
A lady kindly working there has gone down to the cemetery and taken one for me.

Apparently she has take ones for others as well

I have suggested that they might like to keep a copy of photos and add them to their website at some stage.

The email came back saying "What a great idea"

You will need to go to the Hawera Star, in Regent Street. Their rooms are open 9-5pm, Monday to Friday. The paper is not digital as yet. Or contact the Presbyterian Church. Maybe they can assist.

Hawera Star office has all its papers in their reading room. In great big bound folders. Hawera Library won't have them. Papers past website has the early hawera & Normanby Star on line.

I was lucky to find an obituary for my Dad, a day or so after he passed away. So if they were prominate in Hawera there might be other information following the Death notice.

I was speaking with the someone at the library today, they have copies ( not sure in what form) of the Hawera Star upto 1957 but as one Funeral Notice is after that,  I'll go through the one place and email the Hawera Star.
