Pauper Patient
« on: Monday 19 April 04 01:50 BST (UK) »
hi

i was just wondering if anyone knows what a Pauper Patient is (in the relation column of the census).

if it makes a difference the person concerned is only 16. The place is the Highgate Infirmary Pancras in the 1871 census

thanks

I think it would mean his relation to the head of household is patient and his occupation is classed as "pauper".

Infirmaries and workhouses had a slightly different form to fill out so the column could have been combined - can ayone confirm that?

Cheers,
Pam

I would think a pauper patient in a hospital would be a charity case because they could not afford the expense
